Newsroom

Showers and thunderstorms are expected on Wednesday afternoon in Cyprus, with weather officials also warning that humidity levels may also be uncomfortably high.

A low pressure system is affecting the island on Wednesday, when morning skies will be mostly clear but with increasing clouds and chances of showers later in the day.

Thunderstorms are also likely during the day mainly inland and mountain areas while strong winds are expected in the south.

Outdoor conditions for some people could be oppressive and uncomfortable, such as the feeling of skin starting to feel sticky

Wednesday temperature highs will reach 34 degrees Celsius inland, 30 on the west coast, 32 in all other coastal regions, while it will be 24 high up in the mountains.

While highs are not considered extreme, the feel factor is expected to make some people feel conditions are oppressive and uncomfortable, such as the feeling of skin starting to feel sticky.

According to the state’s chief meteorologist, Kleanthis Nicolaides, conditions on Wednesday afternoon may cause a feeling of discomfort due to high temperature and humidity levels.

Evening skies will be mostly clear with low cloud formations from time to time. Temperature lows will drop to 19 degrees inland, 21 in coastal regions, while it will be 16 higher up.

Thursday weather will start off with mostly clear skies but afternoon clouds could bring chances of isolated showers mainly in the mountains.

Weather will clear out Friday and Saturday as temperatures levels will also rise to reach normal averages for this time of the year.
