This week started with an extreme high temperature warning issued for Cyprus, with inland highs expected to reach 40 degrees on Monday and further increases later in the week.
A warm air mass is affecting the area over Cyprus, with Monday skies mostly clear and variable winds from weak to moderate throughout the day but also strong winds along the coast in the afternoon.
Tuesday will see even higher temperatures, above normal averages for this time of the year, expected to last through Thursday
A yellow warning has been issued for Monday afternoon from 1pm until 5pm, due to extreme high temperatures reaching 40 degrees Celsius in the interior.
Temperature highs elsewhere will be 32 degrees in the west, around 32 in all other coastal regions, while it will be 31 high up in the mountains.
Evening weather will remain mostly clear with light fog and low cloud formations expected overnight in local areas.
Temperature lows will drop to 22 degrees in the interior as well as in the north and out west, around 24 in all other coastal regions, while it will be 20 high up in the mountains.
Tuesday will see even higher temperatures, with maximum inland highs climbing further to reach levels above normal averages for this time of the year. Extreme hot temperatures are expected to last through Thursday.
