The Ministry of Transport, Communications and Works said Wednesday that it has completed the third phase of its subsidy plan for protective equipment for motorcyclists.
The program, launched in 2022, was carried out in three phases through 2025 with a total budget of €1.05 million, or €350,000 per phase. The plan offers subsidies of up to €500 for the purchase of motorcycle airbags.
At the close of applications for the third phase, the ministry received 1,440 submissions. Of those, 102 were for protective equipment for low-power motorcycles and 1,338 were for high-power motorcycles, according to the plan announced Dec. 2, 2024.
All applicants were given the opportunity to claim the subsidy. In the end, 650 applicants submitted the required documents and secured the grant. Of those, 607 were for high-power motorcycles and 43 were for low-power motorcycles. The ministry said it will disburse about €323,000 for this phase, using 92% of the available budget.
The payment process for approved subsidies is underway and is expected to be completed by the end of August, the ministry said. Officials thanked citizens for supporting the program, which aims to improve road safety across the country.
