Monday blues: Even the weather doesn't feel like trying

The weather, much like your motivation, is struggling to hold it together—expect clouds, rain, and the occasional existential crisis.

Newsroom

If you thought dragging yourself out of bed this morning was tough, brace yourself—the weather seems to be feeling just as moody. Weak low pressure is hovering over the area, much like your will to start the week, and things are only getting gloomier. Expect partly cloudy skies turning mostly cloudy (because Monday), with scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms. Basically, the weather is also struggling to hold itself together.

Winds will be as indecisive as your morning alarm snooze battle, starting off light and variable before settling on a southeast to southwest breeze at 3 to 4 Beaufort. The sea will be slightly choppy, mirroring your coffee-stirring technique as you try to wake up. Temperatures will grudgingly rise to 18°C inland and along the coast, while the mountains will keep things brisk at 7°C—perfect for those who want to physically match their Monday mood.

If you weren’t already feeling cold inside, you will be by then.

Tonight’s Outlook: Monday Finally Gives Up

After a long day of inconsistency, the skies will reluctantly clear up. There’s still a chance of isolated rain or a rogue thunderstorm, but things will soon settle—unlike your workload. Winds will shift northwest to northeast at 3 Beaufort, and the sea will be calm to slightly choppy, much like your emotions after making it through the day. Temperatures will drop to a chilly 4°C inland, 9°C on the coast, and a frosty 1°C in the mountains—where even the clouds seem to be sulking, possibly leaving behind some frost.

The Rest of the Week: More of the Same, Then a Reality Check

Tuesday and Wednesday bring more mood swings, with cloudy spells, scattered showers, and the occasional thunderstorm, mostly in the western and eastern halves of the island. Then, on Thursday, the cold air mass makes its grand entrance—expect a significant temperature drop, some showers, and even a chance of snow or sleet in the higher mountains. If you weren’t already feeling cold inside, you will be by then.

At last check, Troodos Square was holding onto 2 cm of snow, while Chionistra boasted 10 cm—just enough for a dramatic winter Instagram post before it all melts.

So, whether you’re battling Monday, the weather, or both, keep an umbrella handy and an extra dose of patience. Spring isn’t here yet, and neither is the weekend. Stay dry, stay warm, and may your coffee be stronger than the forecast.
