The 40-year-old who was diagnosed with monkeypox is in good condition, according to an official announcement made by the Ministry of Health on Tuesday afternoon.
Speaking to Oriana Papantoniou on her podcast, Constantinos Athanasiou, the Communications Advisor of the Ministry of Health, said that the 40-year-old is being treated in the specially designed area of the Nicosia Hospital and is in good condition.
Mr. Athanasiou also stated that the patient had traveled to a European country and returned back to Cyprus in less than a week, which is where contamination may have occurred.
Regarding the patient's close contacts, Mr. Athanasiou said that they had been informed, but had no idea as to the number of contacts at this point.
The incident was identified after a molecular laboratory test was carried out by the microbiological laboratory of the Nicosia General Hospital.
