More victims below the legal age are believed to have been involved in the production of child porn, with at least six victims described as boys from Cyprus.
According to police sources, a 42-year-old male accountant from Limassol, who offered private lessons to minors for free, may have preyed on more victims at his home studio, which was raided last week in a child porn bust.
The suspect is being accused of running an illegal production setup at home where he created videos of sexual nature using naked children, while initial reports suggested investigators did not believe he had sexual intercourse with the minors.
At least six boys aged between 12 and 15 were recorded naked in images and videos, which were found in the suspect’s home collection.
A month later, the suspect was arrested again at the same time law enforcement officials from several countries arrested hundreds of people worldwide
But reports on Wednesday said the suspect, who was remanded in custody last week, may have preyed on more young victims. It was not immediately clear whether other victims were also based in Cyprus or abroad.
The suspect was reportedly exercising his right to silence, with investigators trying to ascertain the extent of the case.
Previous reports also said the suspect was detained in September after a 15-year-old boy accused him of sexual harassment. The arrest took place in mid-September and the suspect was got out on bail.
A month later, the suspect was arrested again at the same time law enforcement officials from several countries arrested hundreds of people worldwide after knocking out a South Korea-based dark web child pornography site that sold gruesome videos for digital cash.
According to Reuters, the website was called “Welcome To Video” and relied on the bitcoin cryptocurrency to sell access to 250,000 videos depicting child sexual abuse.
"Do not upload adult porn"
Officials said video content on the website included footage of “extremely young children being raped” while the upload page instructions stated verbatim “do not upload adult porn.”
Arrests were made in 38 countries including the UK, Ireland, America, South Korea, Germany, Spain, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, the Czech Republic and Canada, while other countries were not named in news reports.
Cyprus police did not say whether the arrest of the suspect in Limassol was connected or coordinated in any way with arrests in other countries.
