Cyprus police raid child porn studio

Limassol man arrested during raid of home setup where he allegedly photographed naked children

Newsroom

Cyprus police have arrested a Limassol man in an unprecedented child porn case, with investigators saying the suspect was running a production setup at home where he produced videos of sexual nature using naked children.

Cyber crime director Andreas Anastasiades says law enforcement officials have uncovered a “very serious” case of child pornography, while police were still trying to learn more about the illegal operation of a 42-year-old suspect already in custody.

Anastasiades, who declined to give out the exact ages of children involved, went on AlphaNews Live on Tuesday and said the suspect appears to have brought a “great number of children” to his home at least within the year 2019, where he took nude photos of them.

At least five minors were depicted in sexual images and videos, with some children being 'definitely on the younger side'

“This is the first time we are dealing with the production of child pornography content and the case is described as very serious,” Anastasiades said.

According to preliminary findings, police do not believe that the suspect had sexual intercourse with the children.

“This was a plain video recording of naked children, there was no sexual activity,” Anastasiades said.

At least five minors were said to have been depicted in the images and videos according to officials, with Anastasiades refusing to give out their age while saying “the children were definitely on the younger side.”

Police did not say whether the suspect produced the child porn for his own use or for other reasons, such as the possibility of illegally manufacturing and selling the content online.
