A fire broke out yesterday afternoon in a residence in Latsia, reportedly caused by a forgotten candle left burning in a children’s bedroom.

The Cyprus Fire Service said two fully staffed fire trucks from the Nicosia fire stations responded to the scene at 3:39 p.m. The fire originated on the first floor of the home.

The blaze damaged the bedroom and its furnishings, the fire service reported. Two occupants of the house were taken to the hospital as a precautionary measure after experiencing respiratory issues.

Fire investigators determined the cause of the fire on site was a forgotten candle in the children’s bedroom.

In the past 24 hours, the Fire Service responded to a total of 26 incidents, including 12 fires and 15 special service calls.
