A team from the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) is set to arrive in Cyprus Wednesday night to aid in investigating the recent wildfires that ravaged the Limassol mountains, Deputy Government Spokesman Giannis Antoniou said.

The 10-member unit, invited by President Nikos Christodoulides, will begin work Thursday with an on-site inspection of the area where smoke was first reported. The specialists will remain in Cyprus for 10 days to conduct field assessments before delivering an initial evaluation, followed by a detailed report to the president.

Renowned for its expertise in fire and arson investigations, the ATF unit will analyze the fire’s origin and collect evidence to assist Cypriot authorities. Established in 1972, the ATF is a U.S. Justice Department agency that enforces federal laws on alcohol, tobacco, firearms, explosives and arson, and is recognized globally for its role in preventing violent crime and ensuring public safety.
