Multicultural play ''CUT'' breaks barriers in Cyprus

Performances to take place between March 19 and April 9

Newsroom

A groundbreaking theatrical production titled ''CUT'' is making waves in Cyprus, challenging linguistic and cultural barriers in a divided nation.

Developed by a diverse team of theatre professionals, "CUT" explores the complex dynamics between a director tasked with staging Hamlet and an actor, shedding light on the theme of value within the performing arts industry.

The play, primarily a comedy but occasionally delving into darker themes, aims to introduce a new genre to Cypriot audiences while promoting unity and understanding across linguistic, religious, and ethnic divides.

With a cast comprising Greek and Turkish-speaking Cypriot actors, "CUT" is set to premiere in both Northern and Southern Cyprus, performed entirely in English.

"This production is not just about entertainment; it's about breaking down barriers and fostering dialogue," said Nehir Demirel, the play's director. "We believe that creativity flourishes in an environment of peace and collaboration."

Scheduled performances will take place at the SATIRIKO THEATRE in Nicosia on March 19, 26, and April 2, 9, 2024, starting at 8:00 PM. Tickets are available online and at the theater box office.
