Cyprus is expected to bring its National Cancer Institute into operation before the end of 2026, according to Health Minister Neophytos Charalambides, who said preparations are nearing completion.
The minister said the legal process to establish the company that will operate the institute is almost finished. Once launched, the institute will oversee the coordination of cancer-related policy, planning and services across the country through a dedicated team of specialists.
Authorities are also considering where the institute will be based. Charalambides said decisions on its location are expected soon and indicated that official announcements could follow in the near future.
Speaking on the radio programme Diaspora Eidiseon, the minister said the institute is intended to provide a single body responsible for coordinating oncology matters at a national level.
Charalambides also outlined plans to expand preventive healthcare programmes. Two new screening initiatives, one focusing on autism and another on prostate health, are expected to begin before the end of 2026. Three additional prevention programmes are scheduled for rollout during 2027.
