National Guard strengthens wildfire response with specialist bulldozer training

Training prepares personnel to support fire prevention projects and frontline forest firefighting across Cyprus.

Newsroom

National Guard personnel have completed specialised training on the use of bulldozers in wildfire prevention and firefighting as Cyprus continues to strengthen its preparedness for the fire season.

The programme, organised by the Department of Forests on June 30 and July 1, combined classroom instruction with practical exercises to ensure operators can safely and effectively use heavy machinery during fire emergencies.

Participants received training in the principles of wildfire suppression, the safe operation of bulldozers and the role of the equipment in creating and maintaining firebreaks before fires occur. They were also taught how bulldozers can support frontline firefighting efforts during active forest fires.

The Department of Forests said the training reflects the close cooperation between the department, the National Guard and other government agencies involved in protecting forests and responding to wildfires.

Authorities said coordinated preparation is essential to safeguarding forests, communities, property and Cyprus' natural environment during periods of elevated fire risk.
