Health Minister Michael Damianos introduced an online portal called the ''Patient’s Guide'' on Monday, aiming to improve the public’s understanding of the General Health System (GeSY) and promote more responsible use of healthcare services.

Speaking at a press conference, Damianos described the guide as a "dynamic and user-friendly tool" that offers up-to-date information on GeSY services, helping citizens navigate the system more effectively. He emphasized its role in fostering a culture of rational healthcare usage to ensure high-quality services while maintaining the system’s sustainability.

The guide, developed by the Health Insurance Organisation (HIO) in collaboration with the Cyprus Federation of Patients' Associations (CyFPA), addresses a growing need for better public awareness of GeSY. "Many beneficiaries are still unaware of their rights and obligations within the system," Damianos said, underscoring that the lack of understanding has created a pressing need for clear guidance.

The "Patient's Guide" website provides straightforward information about available GeSY services, with specialized content tailored to chronic patients. The platform is continuously monitored and updated by the HIO to ensure accuracy and relevance.

Damianos highlighted that GeSY, which recently marked its fifth anniversary, represents one of the most significant social reforms in Cyprus. He praised its adaptability to modern healthcare needs, describing it as a system in constant evolution. However, he acknowledged that improving public awareness of GeSY’s offerings and fostering responsible usage are essential to preserving its long-term effectiveness.

The minister encouraged citizens to explore the new tool, emphasizing its potential to empower users while supporting the continued development of the national health system.

Citizens can access the site at https://patientjourneycy.org as well as through the GeSY website www.gesy.org.cy.
