Olive oil and potatoes saw the largest annual price increases in September 2024, surging by 61.3% and 57.7% respectively, according to data from the Cyprus Consumer Association. These sharp hikes were significantly higher than other goods, highlighting rising costs that have impacted local households.

Compared to the previous month, olive oil prices remained steady, but potatoes experienced a 23.3% jump in just one month.

On the flip side, sugar prices saw the steepest drop, falling by 28.3% in September 2024 compared to the same period last year. From August to September, the price of sugar declined by a further 1%.

Other notable price hikes from September 2023 to September 2024 included bus and coach transport, which rose by 23.1%, vegetables by 17.6%, and organized holidays by 17.2%. Services such as painting also became more expensive, increasing by 13.8%.

Despite rising costs in many sectors, the report indicated price drops in categories like garden furniture, which fell by 14.2%, and petroleum, down by 13.4%.

As inflation impacts consumer goods, the Cyprus Consumer Association continues to monitor price trends, helping consumers stay informed on market shifts.
