Over 40 degrees here to stay all weekend

Yellow warning extended through Friday 5pm with temperatures reaching 41 degrees

Newsroom

An extreme high temperature warning remains in effect on Friday, with 41 degrees expected Friday and possibly Saturday.

Cyprus Weather Service has extended a Yellow Weather Alert until Friday 5pm due to very hot weather, with temperatures expected to reach 41 degrees around the capital.

Friday weather will be mostly clear, with light winds blowing from the northeast and northwest in the early part of the day developing into light to moderate winds and eventually a sea breeze late afternoon.

Seas will be relatively calm in the morning and calm to relatively calm later in the afternoon.

41 Celsius (105 Fahrenheit)

Maximum temperatures are expected to reach 41° Celsius inland, around 32° on the western coast and on the mountains, and 37° in the rest of the coastal regions.

Evening skies will remain mostly clear with a chance of light fog and low cloud formations appearing in the south and eastern shores, but the forecast did not include a chance of rain.

Minimum temperatures will drop to 25° Celsius inland, 22° around the coast, and 18° degrees on the mountains.

Saturday skies will remain mostly clear with no noticeable changes for Sunday and Monday, except light fog and low clouds.

Temperatures are expected to dip slightly by Sunday, overruling previous estimates about a temperature drop somewhat sooner.

Yellow warning awareness

Officials advise people who are particularly sensitive to hot weather, such as senior citizens, young children, pregnant women, and people who face health issues, to take precautions, such as drink plenty of fluids (water), dress lightly, avoid extended exposure to the sun, and stay in cooled areas using air fans or air condition units.
