Two police officers have been suspended following the circulation of a video appearing to show sexual activity taking place inside a patrol car, police said Monday.
In an official statement, police said the footage “appears to reflect reality,” prompting both criminal and disciplinary investigations into the incident.
“Instructions have been given to verify the authenticity of the video so that appropriate checks can be carried out,” the statement said. “At first glance, the video appears to be genuine, and therefore directions were issued for criminal and disciplinary investigation of the offenses that may arise. As a result, two members of the police will be suspended.”
Authorities added that the conduct seen in the video is “unacceptable,” stressing that it undermines the work of thousands of officers who perform their duties professionally.
The video, which went viral online, appears to show two individuals engaging in sexual activity in plain view inside a police patrol vehicle in the Larnaca area.
