A 30-year-old police probationer in Cyprus has been arrested in connection with an investigation into the alleged illegal possession of anabolic substances, authorities said.

The arrest came after police carried out a court-approved search at his home in Nicosia, where officers reportedly found 69 vials suspected to contain anabolic substances.

The probationer was taken into custody to assist investigators with questioning as the case continues.

Police said the search was conducted under a warrant as part of an ongoing investigation into the possession and possible distribution of controlled substances.

In a separate development, the chief of police has ordered the initiation of procedures to suspend the officer from duty pending the outcome of the investigation.

Authorities have not yet disclosed whether additional suspects are being examined or whether charges will be filed.

The case remains under investigation.
