President Nicos Christodoulides announced a new package of measures aimed at supporting students and alleviating family budgets amid rising inflation and costs. The initiative, titled "Together at Every Beginning," is designed to assist families as the new school year approaches.
Over 45,000 students are set to benefit from the €9.5 million package, which provides financial support for school supplies, tablets, computers, and transportation.
Key components of the "Together at Every Beginning" package include:
- School Supplies Grant: €100 per student in the first grade of primary school, secondary school, high school, and technical school. This measure will assist approximately 26,000 students at a cost of €2.6 million.
- Technology Grants: €200 for tablets for all third-grade primary students and €400 for laptops for all second-grade secondary students, benefiting around 17,000 students at a cost of €5 million.
- Family Support Grant: €150 for families with at least three children attending pre-primary (ages 4/6/12 and above), primary, secondary, and technical education. This includes families with children in private education. Approximately 5,900 families will benefit from this measure, with an estimated cost of €900,000.
- Additional Family Support: €150 for families with at least three children in public schools not benefiting from other measures. Families can apply through their children's schools, and this measure will also support around 5,900 families.
- Public Transport Discounts: Reduced fares for secondary general and technical education students, lowering annual fares from €200 to €30 and monthly fares from €10 to €5. This measure, costing an estimated €1 million, will benefit about 20,000 students and contribute to reducing traffic and promoting green initiatives. Primary school students will continue to ride for free.
President Christodoulides emphasized the importance of supporting students and their families, stating that each new school year brings hope and opportunities. "In every beginning, together!" he declared, highlighting the government's commitment to the youth of today for a brighter tomorrow.
