Newsroom

An elderly Russian tourist was killed on Thursday in a road accident in Ayia Napa, after she was struck by an oncoming vehicle while she was attempting to cross the road.

The tourist, a 73-year-old woman who was vacationing in Cyprus, tried to cross the street on Nissi avenue on foot when she was hit by am oncoming taxi driven by a local 65-year-old driver.

The accident took place in the afternoon, around 3:45pm, and police immediately arrived on the scene. Officers also performed a Breathalyzer test on the Greek Cypriot driver who showed zero alcohol in his bloodstream.

The accident comes a day after another senior citizen was critically wounded in Paphos while crossing the street, and two days after another elderly man died on a Limassol hospital bed, a month after he was struck where he also lost his wife in the same accident.
