The Police are actively searching for the informant who disclosed details about Law Commissioner Louisa Christodoulides Zannetou's breathalyzer test incident to ''POLITIS'' newspaper.

Under data protection laws, the Police have initiated an administrative investigation to identify the individual responsible for leaking the incident to "POLITIS," as reported by the newspaper.  A senior police officer, engaged in the investigation, met with the Politis reporter this morning, who invoked journalistic confidentiality during the session.

Although Politis refrained from naming Mrs. Zannetou in its initial publication on January 19, 2024, due to privacy regulations, the Law Commissioner herself later acknowledged the incident in a written statement after widespread coverage.

According to Politis, the news outlet reported that Mrs. Zannetou was allegedly driving under the influence on Constantine Paleologou Street in Nicosia during the early hours of January 11. The breathalyzer test indicated a reading above the permissible limit, and subsequent attempts at a second test at the Strovolos police station were reportedly unsuccessful, leading to the formulation of charges for refusal or avoidance of providing the required sample.

The case is scheduled for a hearing before the Nicosia District Court.
