What an eyewitness reports

Newsroom

A young man was violently assaulted by a group of hooded individuals in a central area of Limassol, while the entire city was celebrating the carnival.

According to a report made by a woman who witnessed the incident, a group of hooded attackers aggressively targeted a foreign national, cornering him and kicking him relentlessly.

In her post, Ms. Monika Pieridou mentions that she and two others tried to stop the attackers, who then fled the scene. "His face was covered in blood. The kicks were so strong that the man was motionless, like he had fainted," she notes in her shocking account.

The unedited post
Yes...
There is blood!
Last night I experienced something I will never forget!
It was a night of joy, celebration, and life, yet anger and violence remain strong, no matter the moment!
We were walking on Independence Street when suddenly, a crowd of "kids" came rushing towards a small-built young man. I started shouting: STOP!!! However, they, like wild animals with their faces covered (not with masks, but like hoods), cornered him and kicked him relentlessly with hatred. I ran with others, Maria and Nikola, trying to stop them. I lost control, screaming in outrage. They fled when they realized we were more! We chased after them, but they got away. The traffic police (not the police, as there wasn’t a single one present!) also ran to help and called for an ambulance.

A young boy, bloodied in a corner, surrounded by confetti and streamers!
During a time of joy!! His face was drenched in blood. The kicks were so strong that the man was motionless, like he had fainted!!! They kicked him violently and continuously, in the stomach and all over his body! As if he were a sack and not a human.

We approached him, gave him first aid. He opened his eyes and looked so terrified!!
The ambulance arrived after a while.
I don’t know what the reason was, but whatever it was, it DOES NOT JUSTIFY the violence!! It is criminal and inhumane for children/teenagers/youth to behave this way!!
Yes… the victim was a foreigner who looked Cypriot! It didn’t matter to all of us there where he was from; what mattered was that he was!/is a HUMAN!
I wish the boy a speedy recovery!
I have seen such rage and hatred over the past two years!! I have seen it many times, even among friends and fellow citizens. I have seen couples, Cypriots, in various situations. At unexpected times!! Everywhere. On the streets. In cars. At festivals. During my walks. EVERYWHERE!!!
The amount of anger accumulated in their hearts is incredible. No, it has nothing to do with the carnival; it has to do with a global situation! After the lockdown, the world changed. People became angry and clouded! Unjustifiably!!! Global psychotherapy is needed!!
