Police in Agios Theodoros, Larnaca, are investigating two violent incidents that happened only hours apart and may be connected. One case involves gunfire aimed at a businessman’s vehicles, while the other concerns a car fire reported early Tuesday morning.
Authorities said the shooting was discovered around 11:30 a.m. Tuesday when a 32-year-old businessman found damage on two vehicles parked outside a vacation home in a village in the Larnaca district. The man, who owns a betting agency in the area, had stayed at the property overnight with his wife.
After examining the vehicles, officers found several holes believed to have been caused by bullets. Investigators think the shots were fired sometime during the night. Members of the Larnaca Criminal Investigation Department secured the scene and began collecting evidence and witness statements.
Police are looking into several possible motives, including the possibility that the attack was connected to business disputes. Investigators are continuing forensic examinations in an effort to identify those responsible.
Earlier that same morning, at about 4:40 a.m., emergency services responded to reports of a vehicle on fire in a field in Agios Theodoros. Police and EMAK rescue personnel managed to put out the flames.
Initial findings showed the burned vehicle belongs to a 28-year-old man. During follow-up inspections later in the day, investigators discovered flammable material at the scene, which is now being examined as part of the inquiry into how the fire started.
Both incidents remain under investigation by the Kofinou Regional Police Station, with authorities examining whether the two cases are linked.
