Newsroom
Yours truly is currently in the Netherlands, covering the upcoming state visit of the King and Queen of The Netherlands to Cyprus in early March. And let’s just say—they’ll probably appreciate our island’s weather when they arrive. Last night, just outside Amsterdam, there were snow flurries, so Cyprus might feel like a tropical getaway in comparison. Then again, who knows? Just yesterday, people were out playing football in the snow up in Kyperounta! Let’s just hope we roll out some decent sunshine for the Dutch royals—it’ll be a historic visit, after all, as they’ll be the first Dutch heads of state to set foot on the island.
As for me? Well, let’s just say I’ve discovered that my cold tolerance is about as strong as a soggy paper straw. Last night, I bundled up like a human burrito—scarf, hat, double-layered coats, the whole nine yards. And yet, I was still shivering like a leaf in the wind. Nordic weather and I are clearly not on speaking terms!
Now, onto today’s weather:
Expect partly cloudy to mostly cloudy skies, with isolated showers and the chance of a storm early on. As the day goes on, local rain and scattered storms are likely. Snowfall is expected in the higher mountains, so if you're heading up there, bring your winter gear.
Winds will be northwest to northeast, light to moderate (3-4 Beaufort), but along the east and southeast coasts, they might get a bit feisty, reaching up to strong (4-5 Beaufort). The sea? A little choppy, but nothing dramatic.
Temperatures today:
13°C inland
16°C along the coast
4°C in the mountains (where frost will linger)
Tonight, expect partly cloudy skies with rain sticking around mainly near the coast, possibly with a stray storm. Winds will stay northwest to northeast, light to moderate (3-4 Beaufort), and the sea will remain slightly rough.
Overnight temperatures:
5°C inland
7°C on the coast
-2°C in the mountains, where frost is a given
Looking ahead:
Wednesday: More clouds, scattered showers, and isolated storms, plus snowfall in the mountains.
Thursday: A mix of clouds and sunshine, with a slight chance of isolated showers early in the day.
Friday: Mostly sunny, though a few clouds may pop up in the afternoon.
As for temperatures, they’ll stay below seasonal averages until Thursday, but by Friday, they’ll warm up to more typical levels for this time of year.
So, if you’re already daydreaming about beach weather—hang in there! Spring is just around the corner.
