A total of 405 schools have had solar panel systems installed by the Technical Services of the Ministry of Education, Sports, and Youth, alongside thermal insulation and waterproofing works. According to a report from a specialized expert, the project has resulted in a 35% overall energy savings.

The project, titled "Installation of Solar Panel Systems in 405 Schools – Thermal and Waterproofing Works," was funded by the European Union’s Recovery and Resilience Facility and carried out by the Ministry of Education, Sports, and Youth.

In collaboration with the Electricity Authority of Cyprus, the initiative involved the installation of thermal insulation across 84,918 square meters and solar panel systems with a combined capacity of 4.881 MW in schools across the districts of Nicosia, Larnaca, Limassol, Famagusta, and Paphos. The project was completed in July 2023.

This initiative is part of Cyprus' Recovery and Resilience Plan under "Pillar 2: Rapid Transition to a Green Economy," which aims to reduce primary energy demand by at least 30% on average.
