"Authorities" in the occupied part of Cyprus have extended the detention of six individuals suspected of human trafficking through the port of Kyrenia. The case involves the smuggling of an Afghan family hidden inside a truck trailer, allegedly for financial gain.
According to "police" reports, the incident occurred on February 25, 2025, when a truck arrived at Kyrenia Tourism Port. "Law enforcement officials" allege that the suspects used the vehicle to transport a family of six—two parents and four children—without proper documentation.
During the investigation, authorities seized eight mobile phones belonging to the suspects and the truck. Further inquiries revealed that on February 26, one of the suspects allegedly used another vehicle to transport the family to a different location and shared photographic evidence of the drop-off.
Police continue to examine surveillance footage and mobile phone records to identify additional individuals involved. A "court" in the occupied area has ordered the six suspects to remain in custody for an additional four days while investigations proceed.
