Former EU Health Commissioner Stella Kyriakides has received international recognition for her decades-long contribution to cancer care. In a ceremony held in Chicago, she was awarded the prestigious "Yvonne 2025" Lifetime Achievement in Oncology Award, a major honor in the field.

The award was presented during the Yvonne Awards Ceremony and OncoDaily Event, chaired by renowned oncologists Dr. Lynn Schuchter and Dr. Larry Norton. Organizers praised Kyriakides’s long-standing efforts to improve cancer treatment across Europe, spotlight prevention, and elevate mental health as a vital part of cancer care.

Kyriakides, who previously served as European Commissioner for Health and Food Safety, was visibly moved by the award. “This recognition is deeply honorable and belongs to all those who work daily for a health system centered on people, prevention, and the dignity of patients,” she said.

The award highlights her key role in shaping EU policy on cancer during her term, including initiatives under Europe’s Beating Cancer Plan. It's a moment of pride not just for Kyriakides, but for Cyprus too, as she continues to make her mark on the global health stage.
