The investigation into the Takata airbag scandal in Cyprus has reached its final stages, with the last testimony heard on Monday. The probe, initiated in March by Attorney General Giorgos Savvides, centers on the handling of vehicle recalls related to defective Takata airbags.

Haris Evripidou, Director of the Traffic Department at Police Headquarters, provided the concluding testimony to the Investigative Committee. Following the session, Committee Chairman Michalakis Christodoulou announced that the findings would be ready by July 12.

In a poignant moment, Christodoulou addressed the parents of two victims present at the session, offering an apology for the state's failure to ensure their safety. He emphasized that any identified responsibilities would be addressed within the committee's authority.

The Takata airbag issue has been a global concern, with defective airbags linked to numerous injuries and fatalities. In Cyprus, the focus has been on how vehicle recalls were managed and whether adequate measures were taken to protect the public.

As the committee prepares its final report, the nation awaits answers and accountability in a case that has deeply affected many families.
