A violent confrontation between an elderly man and a younger man erupted on a busy street in Larnaca, with both parties reportedly exchanging blows and throwing bottles, according to video footage shared by ELAM MP Sotiris Ioannou.
The video shows the altercation escalating after a verbal dispute. The elderly man allegedly initiated the attack, prompting the younger man, described as a foreign national, to retaliate. The older man then grabbed a crate of glass beer bottles and hurled them toward the younger man. The younger man picked up a bottle from the ground and threw it at the elder man, proceeding to run away.
The elderly man can be heard in the video shouting in English, “Go for here! Go because I kill you. I kill you tonight!” Both men spoke in English with non-native accents. The elder man is believed to be Cypriot.
Ioannou posted the video on Facebook, describing the incident as “an example of behavior by migrants toward an elderly fellow citizen on one of the busiest streets of Larnaca.” He criticized the area for becoming “completely ghettoized” and said many local shops have closed due to safety concerns.
ELAM called for stricter immigration policies, including mass deportations and closed facilities, stating that “no half-measures can solve the problem.” The party also signaled plans to address the placement of new facilities in residential areas of Larnaca.
Police have not released an official statement regarding the incident.
