Student and detainee two of three new coronavirus cases

The three new cases brought total known cases to 952


A Health Ministry announcement confirmed that three new coronavirus cases emerged on Tuesday after 1,473 samples were checked for the virus.

One of the new cases involves a student of Larnaca's Drosia middle school. The student was tested in the framework of the government-ordered round of 20,000 tests targeting schools. The Education Ministry said the school will reume operation as normal after it is disinfected, and assured that the health services are making all necessary moves.

The second new case involved a detainee who was tested prior to his transfer to the Central Prisons, as part of the programme targeting special health groups.

An employee of a food and drink businesses was Tuesday’s third new case. More details are expected to be issued at a later stage.

On Tuesday, the Famagusta General Hospital was treating three coronavirus patients, while Nicosia General ICU was still treating three more patients.
