Subsidy programs for kindergarten and child daycare tuition expanded

A government subsidy for elderly care home accommodation will increase from €785 to €1,300, according to Christos Diomidous, an official with the Welfare Benefits Management Service at the Deputy Ministry of Social Welfare.

Speaking on SPOR FM 95.00’s Diaspora Eidiseon program, Diomidous also outlined two subsidy programs for kindergarten and daycare tuition.

The first program covers tuition and meal subsidies for children up to age 4 for the 2025-26 school year, continuing an existing initiative that subsidizes up to 80% of fees. Under a 2023 decision by the government of President Nikos Christodoulides, all families receiving child allowance are eligible.

The second program applies to children aged 4 to 4 years and 5 months, extending coverage to the age of free and compulsory preschool education. This extension, introduced in 2024, follows the same criteria as the subsidy program for younger children.

Diomidous confirmed that the elderly care home subsidy increase will be paid directly to care facilities. The program is already in place for existing beneficiaries, with further announcements expected in the coming days.
