Sunshine & celebration: A glorious 3-day weekend ahead for Cyprus

A sun-drenched weekend of tradition, seaside fun, and celebration as Cyprus welcomes Kataklysmos.

Newsroom

Get ready for a radiant and joy-filled long weekend as Cyprus welcomes the warm embrace of summer and the festive spirit of Kataklysmos, the beloved Flood Festival, rooted in both tradition and celebration.

Friday forecast
The skies will stay mostly clear, letting the sun shine freely across the island. Gentle breezes will start off light and variable (around 3 Beaufort), gradually shifting southwesterly to northwesterly at 3 to 4 Beaufort by the afternoon. The sea will remain calm to slightly choppy, with a touch more liveliness along the western coast later in the day, perfect for a refreshing seaside stroll.

Temperatures will climb to a summery 38°C inland, around 27°C along the western coast, 32°C in the south and east, and 29°C on the northern coast and higher mountain areas. An ideal day to soak up the sun or cool off by the sea.

Friday night
The evening will be serene, with mostly clear skies and a hint of mist or low clouds in some spots, adding a peaceful touch to your evening plans. Winds will ease to 3 Beaufort and seas will remain mostly calm.

Expect overnight lows of 22°C inland, 19°C on the west coast, 20°C elsewhere along the coast, and a refreshing 18°C in the mountains.

Weekend outlook: Kataklysmos joy
The weekend will carry on with mostly clear skies and temperatures holding steady above average through Monday, which marks Pentecost Monday and the beloved Kataklysmos. While the holiday has religious roots, it’s best known for the joyful traditions of water games, seaside festivals, music, and dancing across Cyprus.

Sunday afternoon may bring a few clouds over the mountains and a brief, playful shower, but nothing to dim the festive mood.

Happy Kataklysmos!
