Emergency rescuers manage to revive Finnish teenager following incident in Ayia Napa waters

A 16-year-old male is in critical condition at Nicosia General Hospital following a boating incident when friends spotted the teen unconscious in the water in Cape Greco.

According to local media, a teenager from Finland was onboard a private sailing boat in Cape Greco waters, Ayia Napa, on Sunday. Reports said at one moment, fellow passengers spotted the boy unconscious in the water and called for help.

Emergency rescuers on high speed inflatable boats immediately rushed to the scene and managed to revive the teen after attempting cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) on him.

The Finnish boy was rushed to the Emergency Room at Famagusta General Hospital where doctors on duty determined he was in an “extremely critical condition” and transferred the patient to Makarios Children’s Hospital in Nicosia.

Doctors later said the teenager was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) in critical condition while he was said to be out of danger.

According to Kathimerini Cyprus, the boy came on holiday with his mother.

CIF Famagusta are investigating the incident.
