Two people aged 19 and 17 have been remanded in custody for six days following the reported theft of cash-filled envelopes from a 41-year-old man in Nicosia.
According to police, the incident was reported shortly after 2am on Thursday. The complainant told officers that four individuals approached him while he was walking in the capital and took several envelopes containing money.
Police from the Ledra substation responded to the report and located two suspects believed to be connected to the case.
A search of the pair allegedly uncovered a quantity of cash. Investigators said the suspects were unable to provide a satisfactory account of where the money had come from, leading to their arrest on suspicion of unlawful possession of property.
The two were brought before the Nicosia District Court on Thursday, where a six-day detention order was granted to allow investigators more time to examine the circumstances of the case.
Enquiries are continuing at Nicosia Central Police Station as officers seek to identify and trace the remaining individuals believed to have been involved.
