Demonstrators clashed with police at the port of Volos in central Greece on Wednesday, protesting the arrival of a cruise ship carrying Israeli tourists.
Protesters, chanting pro-Palestinian slogans and holding banners, were dispersed with stun grenades by riot police as passengers – reportedly including an unknown number of Israeli soldiers on a leisure program – disembarked from the Crown Iris and boarded buses for tours of Mount Pilio and the Meteora monastery complex in Thessaly.
Similar protests have occurred across Greece in recent weeks amid Israel’s intensified Gaza offensive.
Greece is a popular destination for Israeli tourists, with multiple daily flights between Tel Aviv and Athens and direct connections to several Greek islands.
