The ''dirty'' Thursday report calls for dust and wind

The atmosphere rolls out the grey carpet for an unwanted guest.

Newsroom

Welcome to Thursday, the day we optimistically call "Little Friday" to make ourselves feel better. But today, the weather has decided to take that nickname literally and behave like a chaotic guest who shows up early to the party and ruins the vibe. We are currently stuck in a meteorological limbo: a weak high-pressure system is trying to keep things together, but it’s losing the battle to a low-pressure drama queen arriving tomorrow.

To make matters stickier, we have a new unwanted visitor arriving today: dust. Yes, just when you thought the week couldn't get grittier, the atmosphere is throwing some particulate matter into the mix. So, if the horizon looks a bit hazy or you feel a sudden urge to sneeze, don't blame your allergies. Blame the weather map.

As for the sky today, it’s suffering from a classic case of commitment issues. It will be partly cloudy, then mostly cloudy, then maybe a little rainy with isolated showers. It just can't decide what it wants to be. The winds are also getting in on the action, blowing from the northeast to southeast. They’ll start weak to moderate, but if you're in a windward coastal area, hold onto your hat because they might gust up to a strong 4–5 Beaufort. The sea will be playing along, ranging from calm to slightly rough, with some rough patches where the wind hits hardest.

Temperature-wise, we are living in a fool’s paradise. The thermometer is going to hit a lovely 22°C inland and an even nicer 23°C on the coasts. Up in the mountains, it’s a crisp 12°C. It sounds perfect, but don't be fooled. This is the weather’s way of buttering you up before the weekend crash.

Tonight, the clouds will stick around, and the winds will keep blowing, potentially staying strong near the coast. But the real plot twist happens tomorrow. Friday kicks off with isolated rain and clouds, but by evening, the floodgates open with thunderstorms. By Saturday, we’re looking at a full-blown winter menu: rain, storms, and even snow or sleet on the highest peaks of Troodos. So, enjoy your dusty, warmish Thursday, because winter is officially packing its bags and heading our way for the weekend!
