Police in Nicosia carried out an early-morning, multi-agency operation that led to the arrest of three men and the seizure of firearms, illegal drugs and cash, authorities said on Monday.
The coordinated searches were conducted under court-issued warrants as part of ongoing investigations into drug-related offenses, unlawful possession of weapons, suspected proceeds from criminal activity, and other violations. Units from the Nicosia Criminal Investigation Department (CID), YKAN, YDAP and MMAD took part in the operation.
During searches of homes and other premises in the district, officers detained two men aged 36 and 30 for offenses committed in flagrante delicto. A range of prohibited items was recovered from their residences.
At the home of the 36-year-old suspect, police located two Flobert-type firearms, a double-barrel shotgun, an air gun and 27 rounds of ammunition. Officers also found 3.8 grams of cannabis, €2,260 in cash and a mobile phone.
In a separate search at the residence of a 30-year-old man, police discovered approximately 40 grams of cocaine and 45 grams of cannabis. The search also yielded €1,025 in cash, two precision digital scales with traces of white residue, and a mobile phone.
All items were confiscated as evidence. Both suspects were taken into custody on charges including illegal possession of drugs, firearms, an air gun and explosive materials, and remain detained while investigations continue.
A third arrest involved a 24-year-old man wanted in connection with a separate case of obtaining money under false pretenses. He was detained under a court warrant issued as part of an investigation led by the Nicosia CID. The suspect was later brought before the Nicosia District Court, which approved a two-day detention order to allow further inquiries.
According to police, the operation began at 5:00 a.m. and concluded around 10:30 a.m. Investigations are ongoing by the Nicosia CID, YKAN’s Nicosia unit, and the Lakatamia Police Station.
