Police have made three new arrests in connection with the murder of 49-year-old football agent Stavros Demosthenous, who was gunned down in his car on October 17 in Limassol.
Authorities said the men, aged 58, 39, and 30, were taken into custody late Sunday under court warrants. A 44-year-old man had already been arrested earlier in the investigation and remains in eight-day detention.
Demosthenous was being driven by his 18-year-old son near their home when gunmen opened fire in what police described as a well-planned ambush. The young driver tried desperately to get his father to the hospital, but heavy traffic caused him to crash into several cars along the way. He wasn’t hurt, but couldn’t continue driving, and his father was later pronounced dead.
Police have not yet released details about the suspects or their alleged roles in the attack, but the case is being treated as a targeted killing possibly linked to organized crime.
