Video footage released by the Search and Rescue Coordination Centre (KSED) captured the intense rescue operation of 56 migrants off Cape Greco. The occupants were tightly packed into a small wooden boat before being located and rescued by members of the Search and Rescue Coordination Center.
Health Minister Michalis Damianos announced on Wednesday that three young girls, part of the group spotted with about 60 people in a boat off Cape Greco, were in critical condition and being treated at Makarios Hospital. Damianos personally visited the hospital to check on their health.
Addressing the situation, Damianos described the events at Cape Greco as "extraordinary." He emphasized the critical condition of the three girls and noted that doctors at Makarios Hospital are closely monitoring them, with additional medical staff available as needed.
The Search and Rescue Coordination Center reported that three children and a man were found unconscious in the boat with 56 others, which allegedly sailed from Lebanon on January 18, carrying irregular migrants. Three additional individuals suffered lower limb fractures.
The critically ill and injured have been transported to Famagusta and Nicosia hospitals, accompanied by qualified nurses from the MEDEVAC teams of the OKYPY Ambulance Service.
