A dramatic bird rescue unfolded Saturday at Athalassa National Forest Park, when a heron was found entangled in a rope hanging from the branches of a dry eucalyptus tree.

Three animal rescuers rushed to the scene after park visitors spotted the struggling bird. Assessing that the heron couldn’t be reached safely from land, they approached the withered tree by boat, carefully cut it down, and freed the exhausted and dehydrated heron.

The rescuers provided immediate first aid before transferring the bird to the Game and Fauna Service Sanatorium, where it is now recovering. Once it regains full strength, officials say the heron will be released back into its natural habitat.

Forest Department officials praised the rescuers for their quick thinking and teamwork. The department also shared a video of the rescue on its official Facebook page, Τμήμα Δασών, showing the careful operation that saved the bird’s life.

It was a small act of courage, but one that reminded many that every life, no matter how small or fragile, is worth saving.
