Tuesday’s forecast: The atmosphere files its midweek paperwork

A lazy high-pressure system clings on while a shy low creeps closer, plotting a midweek mood swing.

Newsroom

The weak high-pressure system is still hanging around today, probably because it forgot its jacket, while a weak low-pressure system is already texting, “On my way!” from tomorrow.

Today: Expect the sky to experiment with its look, throwing on patches of locally increased cloud cover like it’s trying out new outfits. Some of those clouds might get emotional this afternoon, bringing isolated showers in the east. Nothing major, just the sky sighing dramatically over the sea.

Winds will mostly wander from the southwest to northwest, light to moderate at 3-4 Beaufort, and along the windward coasts this afternoon they may flex a little harder, up to 4-5 Beaufort, because apparently, someone wants attention. The sea stays calm to slightly rough, like it’s practicing self-control after Monday’s existential crisis.

Temperatures will reach around 25°C inland and on the southern and eastern coasts, a cooler 23°C on the western and northern coasts, and 18°C in the higher mountains, where autumn is living its best life.

Tonight: The sky tidies itself up again, becoming mostly clear, though a few clouds may loiter in the west, whispering gossip about tomorrow’s low-pressure arrival. Winds will settle into a light northwest to northeast pattern at 3 Beaufort. The sea remains calm to slightly rough, still unsure how it feels about commitment.

Wednesday, Thursday & Friday: Things get interesting, or at least meteorologically curious. Expect periods of cloudiness with local showers and isolated thunderstorms making guest appearances. The sky’s basically running a midweek emotional arc: “mostly fine” on Wednesday, “a bit moody” on Thursday, and “don’t talk to me” by Friday.

By Friday, temperatures will drop noticeably, slipping below the seasonal averages, the atmospheric equivalent of the weather pulling on a hoodie and saying, “I’m just not feeling it anymore.”
