A 35-year-old Ukrainian national was detained by Cypriot authorities after attempting to leave Larnaca Airport, where a European Arrest Warrant issued by Estonia flagged him during routine passport checks. The warrant, reportedly issued about a month prior, targets the man for alleged involvement in a criminal organization.

Authorities confirmed his identity following the arrest and coordinated with judicial cooperation services to manage the case. The suspect appeared before the Larnaca District Court, which ordered his detention until the next hearing. Officials from Cyprus’s Ministry of Justice are reportedly involved in communications with Estonian authorities regarding the extradition process.

The court will next determine whether the man consents to extradition. If he agrees, his transfer to Estonia could occur within two weeks. If he contests the request, a full judicial review of the European Arrest Warrant will take place, during which Cypriot authorities will examine the evidence and the reasons behind Estonia’s extradition request.

Estonian media have not yet provided further details regarding the criminal organization linked to the suspect. The case is expected to return to court in the coming days, at which point it will become clear whether he will accept extradition or challenge Estonia’s claim.
