A confrontation between two students at a secondary school in Paphos on Friday afternoon resulted in a 13-year-old boy being taken to the hospital. The Ministry of Education confirmed the incident and expressed strong disapproval, noting that the same student has been involved in similar episodes twice before, the most recent occurring about six weeks ago.
According to Giorgos Koutsidis, Acting Director of Secondary Education, repeated incidents of this kind highlight the challenges faced by teachers. He urged parents to cooperate with schools rather than directing their frustration at educators or the education system.
Police received a report from the boy’s father, who said his son had been struck on the head by a stone thrown by a 15-year-old female student after an argument between the two. The teenager was examined at Paphos General Hospital, where doctors found a minor head injury and released him shortly afterward.
The boy’s father also reported a second confrontation: later in the day, he encountered the girl’s 44-year-old father at the school, who allegedly threatened him verbally.
Both the Ministry of Education and the Paphos Central Police Station are looking into the circumstances of the incident.
