Up to €32,000 to make your home cheaper to heat and cool

Applications for the €20 million home energy grant scheme open Oct. 20, with funding allocated in submission order.

Newsroom

If your home struggles to stay cool in summer and warm in winter, a new grant scheme could help cover improvements that reduce the energy it needs and potentially bring down the bills.

The “I Save – I Upgrade in Homes (2026)” scheme has a total budget of €20 million, with grants reaching €32,000 for qualifying upgrades.

It covers improvements ranging from insulation and replacement windows to efficient heating and cooling systems, solar panels, and battery storage. The aim is to help homes use less energy, rather than simply help households pay for the energy they already consume.

How much can you get?

The maximum grant depends on the level of improvement achieved.

Under Type A, a home must reach Nearly Zero Energy Building standards and achieve energy savings of at least 60%. The grant can reach €32,000.

Under Type B, a home must also achieve energy savings of at least 60%, with a maximum grant of €24,000.

Higher grant support is available for certain homes and beneficiaries under the scheme’s rules. The amount an applicant receives will depend on the qualifying work and the conditions set out in the implementation guide.

What work is covered?

Eligible improvements include insulation of the building’s outer shell, replacement of windows and frames, shading systems, and solar water heaters.

The scheme also covers standalone air conditioners, high-efficiency heat pumps for heating or cooling, photovoltaic systems operating under net billing, and energy storage systems. Services provided by a qualified energy expert are also eligible.

For a household, that could mean tackling the reasons the air conditioner or heating has to work so hard: heat entering through poorly insulated walls and windows in summer or escaping through them in winter.

Get the energy assessment first

Individuals can submit one application each for an existing home, provided it is not used for business activity and meets the scheme’s eligibility conditions.

Before applying, applicants must obtain an Energy Performance Certificate from a registered, qualified expert. This assesses the home’s energy performance and provides the starting point for the upgrade.

The initial certificate must have been issued after May 15, 2026, and eligible improvements must be carried out after that certificate is issued. The order matters, so homeowners should check the guide before starting work or committing to purchases.

When and where to apply

Applications open Tuesday, Oct. 20, at 9 a.m., exclusively through https://fundingapps.meci.gov.cy.

The deadline is Dec. 30 at 11:59 p.m., but the scheme will close earlier if its budget is exhausted. Applications will be assessed in the order they are submitted, based on the date and time.

For anyone considering an upgrade, the useful first step is to read the implementation guide and arrange the energy assessment ahead of the opening date. Further information is available on 17107.

The scheme falls under the THALIA 2021–2027 program and is co-funded by the European Union’s European Regional Development Fund and the Republic of Cyprus.
