A 22-year-old prisoner was injured on Friday evening following an attack inside the Central Prisons in Nicosia.
Authorities said the incident occurred at approximately 7:25 p.m., when the young inmate was assaulted by two other prisoners. The circumstances surrounding the attack are still being examined.
Prison officers responded quickly, stepping in to contain the situation and restore order. Emergency medical services were called, and the injured man was taken by ambulance to the Accident and Emergency Department of Nicosia General Hospital. After receiving initial treatment, doctors kept him under observation as a precaution.
The prison administration promptly informed the police, who arrived at the facility to begin an investigation and collect witness statements.
Officials confirmed that the Department of Prisons is working closely with law enforcement as inquiries continue, while also taking necessary internal measures within its remit.
