Wednesday weather: The midweek mountain mix-up

Isolated afternoon showers and thunder for the inland crowd.

Newsroom

Mother Nature is still a bit indecisive today. We are caught in a tug-of-war between a departing low-pressure system and a high-pressure system that is waiting in the wings to save our weekend. It is much better than yesterday's snow drama, but you might still want to keep an eye on the horizon.

The day is starting off on its best behavior with plenty of sunshine. However, don’t get too comfortable. After midday, the clouds will start gathering their strength. If you are inland or wandering near the mountains, there is a good chance of isolated showers or even a stray thunderstorm to keep things interesting.

It is a bit warmer than it has been, with temperatures climbing to a much more respectable 23°C inland and 22°C by the sea. Up in the mountains, the winter wonderland is finally melting away as it hits 12°C. The winds are staying polite and light, so your hair should stay mostly in place today.

Tonight, the atmosphere finally takes a deep breath and relaxes. The sky will be mostly clear, though a few low-hanging clouds might drift across the coast like they've lost their way. Winds will be light and the sea will be as calm as a pond, making for a very peaceful night.

The upcoming bright spot

Thursday through Saturday: The weak high-pressure system moves in tomorrow, and it is bringing a much-needed apology for the recent weirdness. We are looking at generally clear skies across the board for the next three days.

Expect a noticeable warm-up by Saturday. We will finally be hitting those temperatures that feel like actual Cyprus in May, slightly above average and perfect for finally putting those thermals back into storage (you know who you are). Enjoy the dry run, because the weekend is looking like a winner.
