Winter wonderland in Troodos after a fresh blanket of snow

Temperatures drop to -4°C in the mountains as a cold front brings snowfall, strong winds, and frosty mornings.

Newsroom

If you woke up this morning, glanced at the mountains, and thought, "Did I teleport to Switzerland overnight?"—you’re not alone! Troodos got a fresh blanket of snow, with 13 centimeters piling up in the square and 16 centimeters at the highest peaks. It's officially snowman season up there, folks!

The weather forecast

The cold front that brought this winter wonderland isn’t done with us just yet. Today’s forecast includes a mix of clouds, the occasional sprinkle of rain in the west and north, and a bit more snow in the mountains. Winds will be keeping things lively, blowing from the north at 4 to 6 Beaufort, so hold onto your hats (and possibly small pets).

Temperature-wise, we’re looking at 12°C inland, 14°C along the coast, and a teeth-chattering 1°C in the higher mountains, where frost will settle in like an uninvited guest. If you're heading up for a snow day, dress like an onion—layers are your best friend.

Tonight, things get even chillier, with temps dropping to -4°C in the mountains. That’s the kind of cold that makes you question all your life choices if you’re not wrapped in three blankets. A few showers may pop up along the coast, with more snowflakes floating down in the mountains. The sea will be rough, so maybe hold off on any late-night swim ideas.

Looking ahead, Friday and Saturday will be mostly clear but with a few passing clouds trying to make an appearance. Sunday might bring a little rain, and yes, even more snow in the highest peaks—because apparently, winter is finally making up for lost time.

Stay warm, enjoy the snow (or just admire it from a cozy café with a hot drink), and remember—Cyprus may be an island, but today, it’s giving serious winter vibes.
