Woman killed in explosion at Thessaloniki parking lot

Blast near bank branch leaves one dead

A 38-year-old woman who was seriously injured in an explosion early this morning in central Thessaloniki has died from her injuries.

The explosion occurred in a parking lot of an apartment building, located next to a bank branch. The woman was rushed to the Hippocrateion Hospital with severe injuries but later succumbed to them.

Police spokesperson Konstantia Dimoglidu told SKAI that authorities are investigating whether the woman was simply passing by or had any connection to the explosion, noting she had been previously involved with law enforcement.

The explosion was reported near the intersection of Platonos and Agiou Dimitriou streets.

Police are continuing their investigation into the cause of the blast. The area remains cordoned off.

The explosion also caused significant damage to the parking lot, nearby businesses, apartments, and vehicles.
