Authorities in Cyprus have fined 24 employers a total of €156,000 and filed charges after discovering 34 foreign nationals working illegally during a week-long immigration enforcement campaign.
The crackdown, carried out by the Aliens and Immigration Service from April 25 to May 2 in the districts of Larnaca and Famagusta, uncovered 20 instances of illegal employment. Employers involved are expected to face legal proceedings.
Officials say illegal employment remains a key factor drawing migrants to Cyprus without authorization. Under Cypriot law, violations may result in up to five years in prison, a €20,000 fine, or both. Administrative penalties may also apply per illegally employed individual.
From 2024 through May 1, 2025, authorities have identified 512 cases of illegal employment, referring 499 employers to court and arresting 799 foreign nationals.
Police said they will continue inspections at hotels, construction sites, and restaurants as part of ongoing efforts to combat unlawful labor practices.
