Turkish Cypriot wage earner injured on construction site during lift accident in Nicosia

A worker was injured on Tuesday in Nicosia when he fell down the elevator shaft at a construction site.

According to Kathimerini Cyprus, the labourer who was described as a 58-year-old Turkish Cypriot male, fell from a height of two metres through the vertical passage of the lift, in an apartment building currently under construction.

Fire fighters were called to the scene and were joined by ambulance medics who used a rescue stretcher to pull the man out of the shat.

The Turkish Cypriot worker was taken to Nicosia General Hospital for medical treatment. Media reports said he suffered multiple injuries.

Officials from the Labour Inspection department as well as police officers went to the scene to inspect the construction site and investigate the incident.
