A 31-year-old man has been sentenced to four years in prison after admitting to stabbing a coworker during a workplace dispute last year.

The ruling was issued by the Larnaca Permanent Criminal Court and relates to an incident that took place on August 14, 2025, at the Kofinou Reception and Accommodation Centre for Migrants. The defendant, a Cypriot citizen of Iraqi origin, attacked a fellow employee who worked as a security guard at the facility.

According to case details, the altercation began when the victim confronted the accused over job-related issues. The situation escalated, and the 31-year-old used a pocketknife to stab the guard. The victim, a Bulgarian national, sustained a wound to the left side of his abdomen, along with minor injuries to his arm and legs.

He was taken to hospital, where doctors treated and stitched the injury. He remained under medical care for 24 hours before being discharged.

Following the incident, the attacker went to the Kofinou Police Station on his own initiative, confessed to the stabbing, and was subsequently arrested. He later pleaded guilty to charges including causing grievous bodily harm and issuing threats.
